In this position, you will provide safe, reliable, and compassionate door-to-door transportation for high school students and their babies to and from school. Our drivers play an important role in removing transportation barriers and helping students and their children arrive at school safely, comfortably, and ready to learn. The ideal candidate is dependable, patient, safety-conscious, and comfortable working with high school students and infants. Responsibilities Safely operate a small school bus to provide door-to-door transportation for high school students and their babies to and from school. Safely assist students and their babies as they enter and exit the bus, as appropriate. Follow assigned routes and schedules while providing timely pick-up and drop-off service. Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and applicable transportation safety regulations. Conduct required pre-trip inspections to verify the vehicle is safe and ready for service before each route. Maintain a safe, calm, and welcoming environment for student passengers and their babies. Respond appropriately to changing traffic, road conditions, emergencies, and other unexpected situations using defensive driving techniques. Follow appropriate procedures for transporting infants and young children, including ensuring that required car seats or other safety equipment are properly used. Maintain appropriate student confidentiality and professionalism. Communicate clearly and professionally with students, parents/guardians, school staff, and administration regarding transportation needs, schedules, and concerns. Report vehicle concerns, maintenance needs, accidents, incidents, or other safety concerns promptly. Maintain appropriate student behavior and safety expectations while transporting passengers. Complete required transportation records, mileage documentation, inspections, and other paperwork. Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned. Requirements Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements and qualifications required to operate a school bus. Experience operating a school bus, transit bus, or other passenger vehicle preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Ability to safely transport high school students, infants, and young children. Ability to safely assist passengers entering and exiting the bus. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Dependable, punctual, patient, and professional. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work respectfully with students and families. Ability to respond appropriately to changing traffic, road conditions, and emergency situations. Basic mechanical knowledge and the ability to identify and report vehicle maintenance concerns. Ability to successfully complete all required background checks, physical examinations, drug and alcohol testing, and other requirements applicable to school bus drivers.
