178 days; Full-time; 5.5 hrs. / day This position will remain posted until filled. All qualified and interested applicants are encouraged to apply.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Safely operates a school bus on days when school is in session over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading, and unloading students at designated locations When needed and as available, transport teachers, students, and others on school field or activity trips Inspect assigned bus on a daily basis prior to transporting passengers to ensure bus is in good, clean, and safe working order Maintain order and discipline in an effective and courteous manner in accordance with district policies, procedures, and report any incidents involving student discipline Follow procedures to ensure no child is left alone on the school bus without adult supervision at any time, and that all students have departed the bus at the end of each trip Prepare aides and students for bus drills and ensures bus evacuation drills are held as required Properly evacuate children according to written and practiced procedures when an accident or emergency occurs Attends all mandatory training Maintains and enforces all safety protocols and procedures at all times Represents the WLCSC and WLCSC Transportation Department in a professional way at all timesJOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Required:
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Possession of or ability to obtain a Class B CDL with passenger, air brake, and school bus endorsements Possession of and maintenance of an acceptableMotor Vehicle Record Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
Must be 21 years of age or older Must meet or exceed medical requirements of the US Department of Transportation and the State of Indiana as stated byIC 20-9-1-3-1
Section 1A Ability to pass all drug and alcohol tests as required by the US Department of Transportation Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical calculations with sufficient mental ability to handle receipts, road maps, road signs, and to calculate mileage Ability to follow directions well Displays positive, enthusiastic, and professional attitude Ability to work as a team with other staff Displays dependability and punctuality Ability to physically assist in safety procedures including evacuation of passengersWORKING CONDITIONS
Must remain seated for extended periods, operate a bus, assist students with boarding, and manage the safe transportation of children Will work in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, etc.) and navigate through traffic, school zones, and various road conditions May work near others, often within a few feet Possible exposure to noise or disruptions while performing job duties The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions given this title and shall not be construed as a declaration of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position.
