Job Description
BUS OPERATOR
Job Summary:
Provide public transit service in a safe, professional manner.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate all company and service vehicles in both revenue and non-revenue service.
- Operate all ancillary equipment appropriate to daily activities, including, but not limited to, electronic fare boxes, electronic or manual destination signs, two-way radio, talking bus, wheelchair lifts.
- Prepare all reports as required by the company related to accidents, statistics, mileage, hours, passengers, revenues and other associated data.
- Conduct minor repairs or equipment alterations, with authorization of a supervisor, to ensure the maintenance of service.
- Observes and complies with state and local traffic laws and ordinances to ensure passenger safety.
- Exercises tact and courtesy in dealing with transit customers and providing customer service.
- Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.
- Other tasks as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Good driving and employment records.
- Good customer service skills.
- Five or more years of vehicle driving experience; bus or truck driving experience preferred, but not required.
- No felony convictions.
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain proper driving licenses and permits (Commercial Driver's License with passenger and air brake endorsements, DTE license).
- Thorough knowledge of the Merrimack Valley area.
- Must be able to push or pull a wheelchair.
