Job Description
The Warwick Community School and District, nestled in the scenic woodlands of Western Massachusetts, seeks a small number of regular and backup drivers for the school year to operate our new all-electric Kia EV-9 "7D" school transport vehicle for short shifts before and after school. Position pay is $20 per hour. The shift is for the AM and PM bus routes- this would be about an hour of time 7:45-8:45 AM and 3:15-4:15 PM, there will also be intermittent half day schedules with the PM route from 12:30-1:30. Job Duties include:
Review the vehicle documentation and become familiar with vehicle operation including options to charge it. Safely and legally operate vehicles in a manner that instills confidence in the traveling public (student passengers, their families, and motorists.) Operates the vehicle within all federal, state and local laws and regulations at all times including using warning lights for student pick up and discharge and other Massachusetts laws for 7D school vehicles. Responsible for a daily pre-trip inspection; inspects the van to ensure that all documentation and necessary safety equipment (i.e. flares, fire extinguishers, first aid kit) is present. Keeps the vehicle free of snow and ice during inclement weather. Properly fasten and secure seatbelts and child seats as required by Massachusetts state law. Practices defensive driving techniques at all times. Follows all safety procedures and policies as described by the District Policy. Obtains all license renewals in a timely manner. Provides all documentation required by the District. Reports for duty prepared and on time. Prepares for each trip and has knowledge of the trip details, maps, and group information. Utilizes the route designed by school staff and coordinates necessary changes with school staff and to avoid excess mileage and time. Maintains a daily route sheet that is current with regards to route stops and timing. Maintains mental and physical health, with additional caution given to the signs of fatigue. Fully understands and monitors the vehicle and its conditions at all times, including pre-trip, during, and post-trip inspections; utilizing proper documentation and procedures and ensuring that no child is left unattended on the vehicle at any time. Maintains a positive, productive attitude and environment to promote safety, order, and respect on the bus with regard to student passenger behavior. Maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance free from tobacco odors and excessive perfumes and fragrances, keeping the vehicle clean and emptying trash daily. Report vehicles needing exterior cleaning to the main office personnel. Proactively anticipates and addresses district/school needs and expectations in a safe, professional and constructive manner. Assist in problem resolution. Notifies the proper authority in the case of an accident or any emergencies. Effectively communicates in a positive, timely manner with all parties necessary including reporting vehicle malfunctions and any accidents or incidents in writing to school administrators. Maintain the vehicle at the proper charge level. Accurately document time worked on a timesheet or payroll information system. Avoids personal use of company vehicles.Requirements:
Excellent driving record and current driver's license, 7D license preferred. Able to obtain and hold a valid Massachusetts 7D Pupil Transport certificate. Must attend 8 hours of training annually (will be provided by the school and paid). CPR certified/ or willing to become Ability to adapt to new technology. Understands and operates vehicles in a manner that avoids damage and unnecessary costs. Appropriately communicates vehicle condition / issues to maintenance and / or management. Maintains a demeanor which supports and encourages teamwork and kindness to students and families. Is willing to take part in paid professional learning opportunities both related to operation of the vehicle and working with children. Meets attendance standards of 180 school days per school calendar year and has some flexibility in their schedule for occasional field trips.
