JOB SUMMARY
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the district's transportation program, ensuring that student transportation is safe, efficient, and in compliance with all state and federal regulations. This position includes oversight of bus routes, driver supervision, safety training, bus maintenance, and fleet coordination.

Superintendent or Designee
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Regularly drives a bus route as needed. 2. Organizes, reviews, and updates bus routes, including daily routes, activity trips, Cougar College, and summer school transportation 3. Assigns and coordinates substitute drivers as needed 4. Supervises and evaluates bus drivers and the bus mechanic 5. Plans and coordinates a district transportation training and safety program, including: 1. Instructs all drivers in proper bus and student safety 2. Planning and coordinating driver training and attendance at workshops 3. Monitors bus loading and unloading on a periodic basis 4. Oversees bus evacuation drills according to DESE regulations and maintains required records 6. Develops and implements a district transportation safety program 7. Provides training and instruction to drivers on bus safety, student safety, and proper use of two-way radios 8. Conducts and documents bus evacuation drills in accordance with DESE requirements 9. Monitors bus loading and unloading procedures and maintains periodic communication with drivers during routes 10. Assists the Superintendent in addressing driver concerns related to safety and operations 11. Assists in decisions regarding inclement weather delays, cancellations, and early dismissals 12. Interviews and recommends prospective bus drivers for hire 13. Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations and reporting requirements 14. Investigates and documents accidents and submits required reports to the Superintendent and DESE 15. Maintains driver certification, licensing, and required health documentation records 16. Supervises bus mechanic and coordinates necessary repairs. (If the supervisor is also qualified to serve as a mechanic, additional compensation would be included.) 17. Coordinates preventative maintenance programs for district buses and maintains service records 18. Prepares buses and documentation for annual Missouri State Highway Patrol inspections and internal inspections 19. Maintains required safety documentation, including MSDS files 20. Works with building administrators and staff to address student behavior concerns on buses 21. Maintains a clean, organized, and efficient transportation office/work area 22. Meets regularly with the Superintendent to communicate transportation concerns and operational updates 23. Performs other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides direct supervision of bus drivers and the bus mechanic. Responsibilities include assigning work, monitoring performance, conducting evaluations, and providing operational direction and support.
Qualifications:
Must hold a valid school bus operator's license. Must hold school bus driver trainer certification or demonstrate the ability to become certified. 4 years of successful experience as a school bus driver is required; previous supervisory and coordination experience preferred. Experience as a mechanic is preferred (the district also employs a part-time mechanic) To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to handle stressful situations with parents and the community with leadership, sincerity, and understanding skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely, both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Utilizes appropriate safety gear to minimize injury and exposure.

The employee is required to walk and stand; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear, and must regularly lift 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is regularly required to meet deadlines under severe time constraints and to interact with the public and staff, while also meeting multiple demands from several people. The employee is frequently required to work irregular or extended work hours. The employee is continuously responsible for the safety, well-being, or work output of other people.

Salary, work day, and year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION
Performance on this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
