Duties Safely operate school buses and transit vehicles according to traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Pick up and drop off students at designated locations, ensuring punctuality and adherence to school policies. Assist students with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including providing wheelchair assistance when needed. Maintain a safe driving environment by practicing defensive driving techniques and quick responses to traffic changes. Enforce student behavior management policies to promote respectful conduct during transit. Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after routes, reporting any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly. Respond effectively to emergency situations using first aid skills, CPR, emergency stop procedures, and emergency response protocols for transportation. Requirements Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus or transit vehicle operation. Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations at the state and local levels. Ability to communicate clearly in English; multilingual skills are a plus for engaging diverse communities. Experience working with children or in youth-centered environments; familiarity with student discipline is advantageous. Certification in first aid, CPR, and emergency response procedures related to transportation safety. Physical ability for heavy lifting when assisting students or handling equipment; good vision and hearing are essential for safety. Strong communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, school staff, and emergency responders.
