Omnibus Operator Temporary/ Part-Time

Positions are temporary in nature and are limited to a maximum of 29.5 hours per week.

DEFINITION

Under direction drives a motor vehicle with a passenger capacity of at least six persons for transporting people on assigned established routes or to special activities, events, or various destinations; may also clean, service, and make minor repairs to such vehicles; does other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Drives a motor vehicle to transport passengers on established routes, trips, or to various destinations. Checks vehicles for safety and performs basic cleaning and minor servicing. Assists passengers entering and exiting the vehicle. Maintains order among passengers. Assists with loading and unloading baggage or packages. Prepares reports and maintains logs of vehicle operation. Utilizes electronic and/or manual recording and information systems.

LICENSE:

Applicants must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement.

KNOWLEDGE OF

The care, maintenance, and competent/safe/efficient operation of vehicles including cleaning, lubricating, servicing of batteries, care of tires, and minor repair procedures. State Motor Vehicle regulations.

ABILITY TO

Analyze problems involving the operation of vehicles. Understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions. Perform tasks after explanations and/or demonstrations. Drive vehicles in a skilled/safe manner. Check, clean, service, and make minor and emergency repairs to vehicles. Keep records and files. Utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American sign language or braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication. RATE :

$24.05 per hour. Starting salary may be higher, commensurate with experience.

Tuesday - Friday, 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM Tuesday - Friday, 4:00 PM to 8:15 PM; Saturday, 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM EEOC This title is classified and non-competitive through Civil Service Must be a resident of New Jersey. Preference given to Salem County Residents.
