Overview Join our team as a School Bus Driver and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles according to traffic laws and safety regulations. Ensure the safety of all passengers by following established vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures. Assist students with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including providing wheelchair assistance when needed. Maintain discipline and manage student behavior to ensure a respectful environment during transit. Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle to verify operational safety, including checking brakes, lights, tires, and emergency equipment. Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected situations with calmness and professionalism to ensure timely arrivals. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear English or multilingual skills as appropriate. Follow school policies on passenger safety, child care, and behavior management protocols at all times. Complete accurate reports on trips, incidents, or vehicle maintenance needs as required by transportation policies. Qualifications Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a school bus endorsement or ability to obtain one upon hire. Proven experience in bus driving, school bus operation, or transit vehicle operation preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations applicable at state and local levels. First aid certification and CPR training are highly desirable to handle emergency situations effectively. Experience working with children or in childcare environments is a plus; patience and excellent communication skills are essential. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment safely. Familiarity with emergency stop procedures, defensive driving techniques, and quick response to traffic changes. Multilingual abilities can enhance communication with diverse student populations; strong writing skills are beneficial for report documentation.
