Position Summary:
The Substitute School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and other school-sponsored events, following designated routes and schedules. This role ensures the safety, comfort, and supervision of students while maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate a school bus safely, following established routes and schedules. Ensure the safety and well-being of all students on board, including proper use of seat belts and other safety equipment. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in safe operating condition. Maintain a clean and orderly bus environment. Follow all traffic laws, school district policies, and safety procedures. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and transportation supervisors. Report incidents, accidents, or mechanical issues immediately to the supervisor. Complete required documentation and logs accurately and on time. Attend mandatory training and safety meetings as required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements. Clean driving record with no recent violations that would disqualify the applicant. Ability to pass a background check and drug/alcohol screening. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, afternoons, and occasional field trips or extracurricular activities. Patience and ability to manage student behavior calmly and effectively.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods while driving. Ability to assist students in entering and exiting the bus safely. Ability to perform basic physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and reaching as required.
