Overview Join our team as a School Bus Driver and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students in our community. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles according to all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Ensure passenger safety by following emergency response procedures for transportation and implementing child, senior, or passenger behavior management techniques. Assist students with disabilities by providing wheelchair assistance and ensuring proper securement during transit. Maintain a clean, well-functioning vehicle by conducting pre-trip inspections and reporting any mechanical issues promptly. Communicate clearly with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using effective communication skills to coordinate pickups, drop-offs, and respond to traffic changes quickly. Follow school policies regarding student discipline and behavior management to promote a respectful environment onboard. Respond swiftly to emergency stop procedures or unexpected traffic situations to ensure passenger safety at all times. Qualifications Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus. Proven experience in bus driving, including school bus driving or transit vehicle operation. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws. First aid certification and CPR training are highly desirable to handle emergency situations effectively. Experience working with children or elderly populations demonstrating patience, compassion, and excellent customer service skills. Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for wheelchair assistance or vehicle maintenance tasks. Strong communication skills to interact confidently with students, parents, school personnel, and emergency responders. Familiarity with emergency response procedures for transportation incidents and child or senior care is preferred.
