School Bus Driver (PT)Schedule:
Monday through Friday for the 2026-2027 SYHours:
Minimum 5-hour shift, split between morning and afternoon bus routes Summary Operates a school bus to safely transport students along assigned routes in accordance with established schedules, traffic regulations, and district policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Drives a school bus safely and professionally. Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Complies with all traffic laws and district transportation policies. Enforces discipline policies as outlined in the School Code of Conduct for Transportation. Participates in required on-site training. Demonstrates proficiency in handling and maneuvering a school bus. Communicates appropriately and respectfully with students, parents, and staff. Prepares reports, memos, and other documentation as required. Assists students in boarding and exiting the bus safely. Maintains order and is able to manage students according to the strategies in the PA School Bus Driver's Manual. Cleans and maintains both the interior and exterior of the bus. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Current Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with S/P endorsements and air brake restriction removed. Successful completion of State Skills and Written Tests; license must be kept current including annual school bus driver physical and driver recertification requirements. Must have a clean driving record (no points). Must pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) drug test and physical examination. Ability to perform basic math functions, including miles per gallon calculations. Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, maintenance instructions, and operating manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to address problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.Other Skills and Abilities:
Work cooperatively and professionally with co-workers, parents, and students. Read and interpret maps accurately. Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Perform duties with an understanding of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. School bus drivers are included in the district's random drug testing pool for CDL drivers. Be proficient in using a digital time clock or something like that Physical Demands The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Frequent bending or twisting of the neck and trunk. Frequent repetitive hand, arm, or finger motions. Frequent grasping and use of hand strength for operating controls and equipment. Occasional lifting or moving up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds (e.g., assisting students or wheelchairs). Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision. Must be able to hear student responses and traffic/environmental sounds.
