Job Description
Job Overview Williamsburg County Transit System is seeking a dependable, safety-focused, and customer-oriented Non-CDL Bus Operator to provide public transportation services throughout Williamsburg County and surrounding service areas. The Non-CDL Bus Operator is responsible for safely transporting passengers using agency vehicles that do not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). This position requires excellent attendance, safe driving practices, professional customer service, and the ability to work respectfully with seniors, individuals with disabilities, and the general public. Duties Safely operate non-CDL passenger transit vehicles. Transport passengers according to assigned schedules, trip manifests, and dispatch instructions. Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections Safely operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and mobility-device securement systems. Properly secure wheelchairs and other mobility devices. Provide courteous and professional customer service to all passengers. Follow agency procedures regarding passenger no-shows, cancellations, schedule changes, and service delays. Accurately complete trip manifests, mileage records, passenger counts, inspection forms, and other required documentation. Report accidents, incidents, passenger injuries, complaints, or unusual situations immediately. Follow all agency safety procedures and defensive-driving practices. Maintain passenger confidentiality. Keep assigned vehicles clean and free from safety hazards. Skills Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation with knowledge of heavy lifting and vehicle maintenance basics. Strong understanding of traffic laws, state and local commercial driving laws, and transportation safety regulations. Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities or bilingual skills are a plus for serving diverse communities. Ability to respond swiftly to traffic changes and emergency situations using emergency response protocols. Demonstrated ability to manage passenger behavior effectively while maintaining a positive environment. Mechanical knowledge related to vehicle operation and troubleshooting is preferred for ensuring vehicle safety. Employment Requirements Valid driver's license. Must be at least 21 years old. Highschool diploma or equivalent Acceptable motor vehicle driving record.
