Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE
The Part-time Bus Operator will operate Navarro College buses in a safe, dependable, efficient and courteous manner and will provide transportation for Navarro College faculty, staff and students. Additional duties and responsibilities will be assigned while under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities.GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
BUSOPERATOR
Transport passengers safely to and from athletic events, field trips, and other off-location destinations obeying all traffic signs, signals and laws. Make simple road repairs and report other repairs necessary for the proper operation of the vehicle. Perform routine repetitive maintenance to a variety of vehicles and equipment such as changing oil and filters, washing exterior, cleaning interior, and checking tires, brakes, belts, and wipers for wear, replacing as necessary. Keep bus filled with fuel, oil, and other necessary fluids. Perform full pre-trip inspection of the vehicle prior to the beginning of each trip. Keep service logs and turn in all paperwork in a timely manner. Secure bus at all times. Provide support to Physical Plant personnel and other staff as assigned by the Director of Facilities. Perform other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Must be able to lift objects weighing 5 - 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, kneel, squat, and twist safely. Must be able to maintain balance, climb, and strongly grip objects. Must be able to be ambulatory and almost constantly sit while operating the bus. Must be able to work variable shifts, irregular hours, and must be available for work on short notice. Must have independent judgment to make decisions in the absence of guidance from others and to plan and carry out work assignments in situations where procedures have been established. Must have interpersonal skills to be able to effectively and courteously communicate with people of diverse backgrounds. Must have sense of humor and personality to effectively deal with traditional-age college students with the ability to interact yet still maintain control. Must have an avocation to sports to be able to effectively interact with athletic teams. Basic knowledge of the procedures, methods, and equipment for maintaining and repairing vehicles. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions. Ability to learn quickly from observation, from oral and written explanations and from demonstrations. Ability to requisition, store, record, safeguard and properly use equipment, materials, supplies, and tools. Basic knowledge and ability to perform maintenance on vehicles with internal combustion engines including air and oil filter changes, minor repairs and detailing of college fleet.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
High School diploma or equivalent or graduation from vocational school. Five (5) years' experience in the operation of a motor vehicle to include one (1) year of operating a commercial motor vehicle. Must have a valid Texas Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) with air brake and passenger endorsements. Must provide documentation having taken a defensive Driving Course within the past six (6) months.WORKING CONDITIONS
Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Busy working environment with numerous interruptions. Must be insurable through Navarro College auto insurance policy. Must pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination which includes a drug screen. Ability to lift up to seventy (70) poundsSALARY:
$15.00 per hour / up to 19 hrs per weekBenefits
