Position Summary:

Safely operate a school bus to transport students along assigned routes and schedules. Maintain compliance with all traffic laws, district transportation policies, and Texas School Bus Driver regulations. Ensure a safe, respectful, and orderly environment for all passengers.

Education & Experience Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED. No experience required. Minimum 18 years of age. Ability to obtain a Texas Class A or B CDL. Acceptable driving record. Must pass Texas Department of Public Safety physical exam, including drug & alcohol screening. Must pass a criminal background check.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:

Class A or B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with P (Passenger) and S (School Bus) endorsements. Completion of the 20hour Texas School Bus Driver Certification Course, with recertification every 3 years.

Special Needs Drivers:

20hour special needs course. 8hour CPI + annual refresher training.

Language & Math Skills:

Ability to read simple words, recognize numbers, and follow written instructions. Ability to write and speak simple sentences. Ability to add/subtract twodigit numbers, multiply/divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform basic calculations using money, weight, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

Apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Handle routine problems with several concrete variables.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Safely and professionally operate a school bus. Perform daily pretrip and posttrip inspections. Obey all traffic laws and district safety regulations. Participating in ongoing training. Maintain cleanliness of the assigned bus. Provide instruction to students on safe riding practices. Maintain student safety and discipline while in transport. Report unsafe behavior or incidents appropriately. Exhibit responsible leadership during outofdistrict trips. Complete accident reports as required. Resolve route overloads, route concerns, equipment issues, loading/unloading problems.

Special Needs Drivers:

Safely transport students with disabilities. Learn and adapt to each students medical, emotional, and physical needs. Operate and maintain knowledge of wheelchairs, lifts, and restraints. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise students during transport.

Working Conditions:

Mental/Physical Demands:

Continuous sitting; occasional walking/standing. Frequent bending, twisting, grasping, and repetitive hand movements. Continuous driving. Lift/move up to 75 pounds (e.g., assisting students). Vision requirements: close, color, depth perception, peripheral. Work in temperatures above 100F or below 32F. Walk on slippery surfaces. Work under time constraints; interact with the public and coworkers. Loud noise environment.
