Primary Purpose:
Responsible for the operations of assigned District vehicle in a safe and proper manner, obeying all state and local laws as well as, safety policies and route schedules of the district. Transport students from PfISD campus to PfISD campus or other school related event. Qualifications (Education/Certification/Experience): High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution. Minimum required age of 21 years old. Valid Class C driver's license. Driving record must meet state point requirements and district standard for driving district vehicles. Must pass physical, including drug test. Successfully complete a 20 hours Texas School Bus Certification Course. Ability to speak and understand English, as well as read, write and comprehend instructions. Ability to hear and respond verbally to various acts of disruption and/or safety and behavior concerns.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Drive a school bus safely and professionally 2. Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules 3. Maintain up-do-date copy of route in vehicle and office with detailed information 4. Perform and properly complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections 5. Drive vehicle in a safe and efficient manner- observe all traffic laws 6. Keep interior and exterior of vehicle clean; maintain appropriate fuel level 7. Ensure the safety of students entering, exiting and riding the bus; supervise students while transporting them 8. Maintain daily attendance sheet 9. Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance 10. Follow Educator Code of Conduct & all policies, procedures, laws and State/Federal regulations. 11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of safety regulations and traffic laws Knowledge of student discipline procedure Knowledge of car/booster seat regulations and be prepared for students that need either one Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all coworkers and the general public and to use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; communicate effectively; and manage student behavior
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Demands):
Tools/Equipment Used:
Operate school bus; two-way radio; global positioning system (GPS); safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher.
Posture:
Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling.
Motion:
Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching.
Lifting:
Limited light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) on a daily basis.
Environment:
Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work around moving vehicles; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours.
