Immediately Job Description Job Overview The Lead Bus Driver assists Area Supervisors with school bus operations. The Lead Bus Driver evaluates bus stops, routes, and employee performance; coordinates with parents, principals, and citizens; coordinates school bus availability and out of service tracking; and assists Area Supervisors with responsibilities of the department. Roles and Responsibilities The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate: Performs routine observations of assigned routes and bus stops. Assists in developing bus routes and route changes, in substitute coordination, and in familiarizing drivers with route assignments. Responds to emergency situations, including investigating motor vehicle accidents and completing accident reports. Observes and evaluates bus drivers and attendants. Explains and enforces bus safety rules to employees, students, school administrators, and the general public. Must be available to drive a school bus or attend on a school bus at any time as needed. Evaluates walk zones to ensure they meet regulation requirements such as traffic volume, speed limit, width of the roadway, traffic lanes, and the type of traffic control. Coordinates snow removal and observes road conditions during inclement weather. Qualifications Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable. Education High School diploma or GED Experience Three years of experience as a school bus driver with a proven record of mastering skills of school bus driving Licenses and Certifications Possess a Commercial Driver's License with school bus endorsement Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations Ability to effectively communicate, to work cooperatively and to manage behavior of students on bus Ability to perform basic first aid procedures Knowledge of all responsibilities of school bus drivers and attendants Physical Requirements The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. May be required to climb stairs and ladders; to bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl; to hold, grasp, and turn objects; to feel shapes, size, temperature of objects, and detect odors. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Essential Personnel Employees who perform the responsibilities of this position for the Department of Support Services are considered essential personnel. Essential personnel are designated employees who must report for work during a delay or emergency situations. A workplace emergency is an unforeseen situation that threatens the staff, pupils, or the public; disrupts or shuts down business operations; or causes physical or environmental damage. Emergencies may be natural or manmade. It is incumbent upon the supervisor to inform and confirm which essential personnel are required to work during emergency closings. Notification and confirmation of the expectation of essential personnel to report to work, or maintain as-needed status, will be executed with as much advanced notice as possible via in-person communication or email.Reports to:
