This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a dedicated team committed to passenger safety and excellent customer service. As a CDL Driver, you will operate various vehicles including school buses, transit buses, and vans, providing essential transportation for children, students, and community members. Your expertise in traffic laws, safety regulations, and emergency procedures will help create a secure environment for all passengers while fostering positive community relationships. Duties Safely operate school buses, transit buses, vans, and paratransit vehicles in accordance with state and local commercial driving laws. Transport passengers—including children and individuals with mobility challenges—while ensuring their safety and comfort at all times. Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding and provide wheelchair assistance as needed. Follow traffic laws diligently, respond quickly to traffic changes, and adhere to transportation safety regulations. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure proper functioning and report any maintenance issues promptly. Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective English language skills; manage behavior and discipline when necessary. Respond appropriately to emergency situations using emergency response procedures for transportation; perform first aid or CPR if required. Support child care and behavior management policies by fostering a positive environment onboard. Complete accurate logs of trips, incidents, vehicle inspections, and passenger counts; write detailed reports when necessary. Ensure compliance with all vehicle codes, school policies, and safety standards to uphold passenger safety at all times. Qualifications Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport (e.g., P endorsement for passenger vehicles). Proven experience driving buses or vans in a school or transit setting; familiarity with school bus driving and paratransit operations preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency stop procedures. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment safely. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Experience working with children or in childcare environments is highly desirable. Certification in first aid, CPR, and emergency response procedures for transportation is preferred. Demonstrated defensive driving skills; ability to respond swiftly to traffic changes or unexpected road conditions. Knowledge of student discipline policies and behavior management techniques. Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of passenger safety and customer service excellence.
