Job description Classified ad for The Catholic Messenger Reporting to the Editor of The Catholic Messenger , the Advertising Representative generates advertising for The Catholic Messenger newspaper, E-edition, website and e-newsletter.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with production of The Catholic Messenger , the diocesan newspaper, by: A. Selling classified and display advertising space for The Catholic Messenger print and digital products. B. Preparing list of prospects from other publications, parish bulletins and other media sources. C. Preparing and delivering sales presentations to new and existing customers and maintain existing accounts for The Catholic Messenger . D. Explaining to customers how specific types of advertising will help promote their products or services effectively. Recommending appropriate sizes/formats for advertising, depending on medium use. E. Maintaining assigned account bases while developing new accounts. Bonuses will be paid based on new accounts on a quarterly basis. F. Processing all correspondence and paperwork related to accounts. G. Delivering advertising or illustration proofs to customers for approval (e-mail, fax or in person). H. Drawing up contracts for advertising work and providing billing information to bookkeeper. I. Assisting with collection of past-due advertising balances. J. Establishing list of advertisers for The Catholic Messenger E-edition and website. K. Bundling advertising packages for The Catholic Messenger newspaper, E-edition and website. L. Initiating special projects to generate ad revenue. M. Developing print and web-based initiatives to promote The Catholic Messenger. N. Monitoring budget and advertising revenue each year. O. Achieving revenue goals as established by the Editor. P. Collaborate with Editor and diocesan staff on new revenue sources. Q. Performing other duties as assigned. R. Ensuring all content produced is in keeping with Catholic Church teachings. S. Collaborating with The Catholic Messenger staff to ensure the successful performance of assigned job duties and responsibilities. T. Collaborating with The Catholic Messenger staff in production of The Catholic Messenger to ensure advertising is ready for print by each deadline.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE A.
Bachelor degree in journalism, mass communications, advertising or marketing is preferred or equivalent experience. B. One to five years advertising experience is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS A.
Efficient and effective organizational skills. B. Excellent oral and written communication skills. C. Advanced understanding and application of technology to areas of responsibility. D. Interpersonal professional relationships, both internally and externally to the Diocese of Davenport, which encourage openness, candor and trust. E. Overall soundness of decisions, effective delegation and maintenance of confidentiality for all sensitive information. F. Flexibility in performing designated duties. G. Acceptance of personal inconvenience for attainment of The Catholic Messenger goals. H. Meet or exceed development objectives established in budgetary process. I. Strong communication skills, able to communicate with staff, sources, parish representatives, and the public. J. Understands Church teaching.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS A.
High ability to analyze and interpret information pertinent to areas of responsibility. B. Ability to perform designated duties under time constraints. C. Willingness to work irregular hours as required to accomplish the responsibilities of the position. D. Ability to travel by automobile, as needed, in the course of the position. E. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit for prolonged periods of time, hear, handle and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. The employee is required to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS A. A
majority of the assigned duties are performed in a well-ventilated, well-lighted and temperature-controlled office environment. B. The employee is subject to both internal and external environmental conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat. C. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS A.
The position can expect an evaluation in the first six months of employment by their immediate supervisor with an annual evaluation thereafter. B. Salary considerations will be commensurate with education and experience. C. The employee understands and agrees that employment for the Diocese of Davenport and any Diocesan entity is contingent on compliance with the Diocesan safe environment policies, procedures and requirements.
