Job Description

The Couriers are responsible for the transportation of supplies and medical items to and from the various locations and medical offices of Opelousas General Health System. Items to be transported includes, but are not limited to, lab specimens, x-rays, mail, medical supplies, and board packets, This position will requires after hours on call duties in the evening during the week, weekends, and holidays. Requires operation of hospital motor vehicle.
Shift:
Monday-Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Picks up items ranging from lab specimens, medical supplies, office supplies, board packets, Ensures that recipients sign delivery receipts and designations are verified. Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations regarding patient specimens. Routinely uses cell phones to get instructions and directions. Mail room activities including sorting, metering, and delivering mail to post office to be sent. Drives an Opelousas General Health System vehicle in all types of weather and taking appropriate safety precautions. Plans routes to save time and efficiency with GPS apps on a cell phone in necessary; also, in some cases, calls or emails recipients to verify they will be at the destination Obtains recipient signature confirmations and answers any questions regarding Takes appropriate security and ethical precautions with packages Performs routine maintenance on vehicles such as inflating tires and keeping vehicle clean and presentable Communicates when vehicles need to have routine maintenance performed and assists in scheduling Duties as assigned by leadership Ability to work evening on-call shifts, weekend and holiday hours are rotated through the department.
Education:
High School Diploma/GED required.

Ability to work under pressure and react effectively to urgent situations. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with coworkers Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work unsupervised with emphasis on punctuality
