Job Description
Job description: Medical Specimen Courier / Collection Technician Job Summary Responsible for the timely and secure collection, transportation, and delivery of medical specimens from clinics, healthcare facilities, group homes, senior living communities, and patient residences. Ensures all specimens are handled according to company policies and regulatory requirements while maintaining established pickup schedules and assigned routes. Key Responsibilities
- Pick up medical specimens from designated clinics, lock boxes, and healthcare facilities within scheduled time frames.
- Collect urine specimens from patients in accordance with established procedures and chain-of-custody requirements.
- Retrieve prepared specimens from group homes, assisted living facilities, senior living communities, and individual patient homes.
- Follow assigned daily routes and schedules to ensure timely specimen collection and delivery.
- Verify specimen labeling, documentation, and packaging before transport.
- Maintain accurate records of specimen pickups, deliveries, and chain-of-custody documentation.
- Communicate professionally with clinic staff, healthcare providers, patients, and facility personnel.
- Ensure specimens are transported safely and securely while maintaining specimen integrity.
- Adhere to all company policies, safety regulations, confidentiality requirements, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Report route issues, delays, or specimen discrepancies to management promptly. Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to follow assigned routes and manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to lift and carry specimen transport containers as required.
- Knowledge of specimen handling procedures and HIPAA regulations is preferred.
- Previous courier, medical transportation, or specimen collection experience is a plus. Work Environment
- Frequent travel within the assigned service area.
- Regular interaction with healthcare professionals, patients, and facility staff.
