Job Description
Position SummaryThe Fuel Attendant is responsible for assisting customers at the pump, ensuring safe and efficient fueling operations, and maintaining a clean, compliant, and customer-friendly forecourt environment. This position plays a key role in delivering excellent customer service, ensuring fuel quality and safety standards, and supporting store operations through proactive maintenance and communication.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the work shiftAbility to lift, carry, and move items up to 50 pounds as neededRegular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rainExposure to fuel fumes and cleaning chemicals with appropriate PPE providedMust be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs
Responsibilities and Duties:
Customer Service & AssistanceGreet customers promptly and courteously, offering assistance with fueling as neededProvide information about fuel types, promotions, and loyalty programsAlways maintain a professional and customer-focused demeanorAddress customer questions or concerns and escalate issues to management when appropriateFuel Operations & SafetySafely dispense fuel and propane in accordance with company policy and local regulationsVerify fuel types and pump markings to ensure accuracy and safety during fuelingMonitor fuel dispensers for proper function and report any leaks, spills, or mechanical issues immediately Follow all state, federal, and company safety procedures, including emergency fuel shutoff protocolsMaintain awareness of and compliance with hazardous material handling proceduresPump Island Maintenance & CleanlinessKeep pump areas clean, organized, and free of debris at all timesRefill supplies such as squeegees, paper towels, windshield cleaner, and trash receptaclesClean fuel nozzles, spill buckets, and containment areas to prevent contamination or hazardsMaintain signage, lighting, and pump displays for accuracy and visibilityCompliance & ReportingFollow established company and regulatory standards related to fuel dispensing, propane handling, and safety practicesComplete required checklists and logs for safety inspections and maintenance issuesReport accidents, unsafe conditions, or equipment failures to management immediatelyTeamwork & SupportCollaborate with store staff and management to support overall station operationsAssist with basic upkeep of the store exterior and coordinate with maintenance personnel as neededExhibit flexibility and a positive attitude in supporting other tasks during slow periodsEducation and Work ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent preferredPrevious experience in fuel station, retail, or customer service environment preferredBasic understanding of fuel operations and safety procedures preferredAbility to complete propane training (as required by state/local regulation)Skill SetExcellent customer service and communication skillsStrong attention to detail and commitment to safetyDependable and self-motivated with a team-oriented attitudeAbility to learn company policies, fueling procedures, and safety standardsBasic mechanical aptitude for identifying and reporting equipment issuesAbility to handle multiple tasks while maintaining focus and accuracyPhysical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
