Job Summary :
This is a part time position with 20-32 hours of work expected per week. The DC Farmers Co-op CDL Drivers are responsible for transporting product from distribution centers, transporting it to DC Farmers Co-op facilities, and to customer properties. This is a customer facing position that requires the CDL operator to bag, rotate, load, and unload product within the facility, and into customer vehicles in addition to transporting goods. This position will also be loading customers with landscape materials . Required Skills/Abilities :
Experience running equipment such as front end loader, tractor with use of a buket to move landscape material. Bag, lift, load, unload, and carry both standard and custom fertilizer facility products such as fertilizer, compost, bark mulch, rocks, dirt, grain, fencing supplies, and feed. Crank trailer landing gear up or down to safely secure vehicles. Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid, performing minor repairs, or washing trucks and perform emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, tire chains, or spark plugs. Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth-wheel locks. Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned. Drive trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations Operate equipment, such as truck cab computers, CB radios, phones, or global positioning systems (GPS) equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers. Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes. Load or unload trucks or help others with loading or unloading, using special loading-related equipment. Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers. Follow appropriate safety procedures for clean-up of dangerous spilled goods. Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions. Install or remove special equipment, such as tire chains, grader blades, plow blades, or sanders. Wrap and secure goods using pads, packing paper, containers, or straps. Work Environment :
Exposure to dust and airborne particles. Personal protective gear provided. Expected to work in all weather conditions, including rain, cold, heat, wildfire smoke, and vibration. Exposure to moderate noise levels from machinery, alarms, and trucks very common. CDL drivers spend approximately 60% of their shift transporting goods on the road, and 40% of their time handling the actual product. Physical Requirements :
Prolonged periods of standing, lifting, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, and walking approximately 70-80% of the time. Prolonged periods of sitting approximately 20-30% of the time. Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently Ability to regularly climb stairs, ladders, and steps. Ability to perform repetitive movements with arms, legs, wrist, and hands over long periods of time.
