Overview Join our dynamic team as a Transportation Driver and play a vital role in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for our community. In this energetic and essential position, you will operate various types of vehicles including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles while prioritizing passenger safety, comfort, and timely arrivals. Your dedication will help foster a positive travel experience for diverse groups such as students, seniors, and individuals with mobility needs. Duties Safely operate transportation vehicles in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Transport passengers including children, seniors, or individuals with disabilities while ensuring their safety and comfort at all times. Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding and disembarking, providing necessary wheelchair assistance with care and professionalism. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and emergency stop procedures when needed. Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective English or multilingual communication skills to respond quickly to traffic changes or passenger needs. Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle mechanical safety and report any issues promptly. Adhere to school policies or transit protocols related to behavior management and student discipline when applicable. Lift heavy items such as luggage or mobility aids safely during passenger assistance. Keep accurate logs of trips, incidents, and vehicle maintenance records in compliance with transportation safety regulations. Qualifications Proven experience driving buses (school bus driving, transit bus operation) or commercial vehicles with a clean driving record. Valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle type (e.g., CDL for commercial driving), with a focus on defensive driving skills. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, school policy knowledge, and state/local commercial driving laws. Certification in first aid and CPR; familiarity with emergency response procedures for transportation is highly desirable. Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse communities effectively. Experience working with children or seniors; childcare or senior care experience is advantageous. Mechanical knowledge to perform basic vehicle inspections and troubleshoot minor issues. Ability to perform quick responses to traffic changes while maintaining passenger safety at all times. Physical capability for heavy lifting and long periods of standing or walking during shifts. Excellent behavior management skills to handle passenger conduct professionally while ensuring a positive environment.
