at Metra in Chicago, Illinois, United States Job Description Salary Range $80,986.00 - $121,479.00 Description The final salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications. Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service. Training and Certification is responsible for the training of locomotive engineers, conductors and assistant conductors and other functions within the Transportation Division. The department conducts and oversees training programs that enable employees to meet regulatory mandates and develop necessary job skills. Reportingto the Director, Workforce Dev & Continuous Learning-Trans, theTraining Instructor will assist the development of employee training programs and facilitates such training as assigned.
The primary duties include:
Provide technical assistance to the department in all areas, including compiling of informational materials, computer generated research and record keeping. Review/recommend available sources of testing instruments to assess employee educational/skill levels and/or aptitude. Monitor and review training programs, produces status reports, summaries and recommendations. Assist the Director of Training & Certification in setting procedures and strategies for responding to various department's needs relating to trainings. Provide hands-on instruction which would include field training, practical training, digital camera work and development of special programs, seminars, videos and slide presentations for both train and enginemen. Coordinate team's day-to-day activities, assign tasks/projects and monitor performance, and provide guidance and training, but is not a supervisor. Promote safe work practices and maintain and foster a safe work environment. Incumbents work under both inside and outside environmental conditions under prevailing conditions of heat, cold, rain, and snow. This position is subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing. Perform otherrelated duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration. Requirements Must possess sixty (60) college credit hours OR in lieu of education, any combination of education and experience may be substituted for the required college credit hours that equals two (2) years in training preferably in the railroad industry. In addition to #1, must have four (4) years of train service experience in the railroad industry, preferably as a conductor. Ability to develop and present training in a logical, understandable fashion utilizing a variety of training aids and presentation tools Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Knowledge of adult learning theories is preferred Knowledge of how to facilitate a variety of teaching techniques is preferred Excellent interpersonal skills to creatively engage and motivate learners Excellent written and verbal communication, and organizational skills Ability to multi-tasks Ability to manage training timetables and deadlines Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize a large workload Ability to assess learning styles and prescribe appropriate instruction methods is preferred Rules qualified required. Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit, for extended periods of time. Hearing/Visual acuity, far/near, depth perception, field of vision, color vision. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must be willing to travel within Metra's 6-county region. Must be available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends.
