Job Description

Trident Seafoods is North America's largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company. Trident is a privately held, 100 percent USA-owned company with global operations in 6 countries and serves customers in almost 60 countries. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington (USA), Trident employs approximately 7,700 people worldwide each year and partners with over 2,700 independent fishermen and crewmembers in Alaska. Trident catches and processes virtually every commercial species of salmon, whitefish, and crab harvested in the North Pacific and Alaska. The global supply chain also encompasses cultured and wild species sourced from an international network of trusted suppliers.
Summary:
Under direction of Captain, Mate and/or Deck Boss, participates in all the activities of the vessel deck and/or fishing crew. Can include the setting and hauling back of nets and pots, all safety drills, loading and unloading cargo, assisting in mooring the vessel and other deck related work as needed.
Essential Functions:
(Responsibilities, Tasks, Supervisory Needs) Assists with pre-season and day-to-day deck operations of the vessel and is responsible for operating the deck in accordance with Trident policy. Assists in directing and overseeing launching, retrieval, operation, and maintenance of a skiff. Operates cranes, hooks, anchor winches, slings, and other lifting devices in a safe manner. Assists in loading and stowing vessel supplies and willing to be trained to stand watch while underway and at anchor. Ability to follow specific directions in case of an emergency. Can include but not limited to launching a raft, donning an Immersion suit or life preserver and assist in response to vessel firefighting and damage control. Cooking meals for 4-6-person vessel crew Maintaining a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner. Acquires knowledge of Trident's Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety training. Required Qualifications:
(Education, Years of Experience, Certifications) A minimum of 1 year of experience on a fishing vessel Basic firefighting skills. Appropriate licenses/permits of trade (e.g., CG license of appropriate tonnage. STCW endorsement, etc.) when required.
Preferred Education & Experiences:
Experience working in an engine room on a vessel Ability to stand a navigational watch Knowledge of working freight, setting and hauling back trawl nets Basic net repair knowledge Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Familiarity with state and federal regulations that apply to the vessel being applied for.
Work environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Work Ability Requirements:
Must be capable of boarding and departing (exiting) a vessel without assistance by moving up or climbing a gangplank, the stern ramp of a vessel and/or a vertical ladder. Must be capable of boarding/departing the vessel by being lifted in a crane or manlift. May also enter and exit a skiff from a dock, plane, or a boat unassisted. Must meet at designated locations to receive instructions and place on a life jacket and an immersion suit without assistance in one minute or less. Must also move quickly without assistance to any designated lifeboat station. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and peripheral vision. Work Authorizations This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
