Job Description
About the Role As a Maritime Vessel Master, you will serve as the primary authority responsible for the secure and seamless transit of passengers and vehicles across inland waterways. You will leverage your expertise in navigation and vessel handling to ensure operational excellence while fostering a culture of safety and professional collaboration among your crew. Responsibilities Command large-scale double-ended ferry vessels, utilizing advanced propulsion systems like Z-drive thrusters to execute precise docking maneuvers in challenging tidal environments. Direct all aspects of vessel operation, ensuring full compliance with federal maritime regulations and internal safety standards. Execute comprehensive pre-voyage assessments of mechanical systems and safety equipment to guarantee mission readiness. Oversee real-time navigation by monitoring meteorological data and hydrological conditions to mitigate operational risks. Maintain rigorous documentation of voyage logs, passenger manifests, and incident reports to uphold regulatory compliance. Lead and mentor deck personnel, providing hands-on training in emergency response protocols and daily operational procedures. Drive continuous improvement in transit efficiency and the overall passenger experience through proactive communication and leadership. Required Skills Valid U.S. Coast Guard Master License or OUPV credential. Demonstrated proficiency in operating passenger ferries or similar commercial maritime vessels. Comprehensive understanding of maritime navigation, safety protocols, and emergency management. Ability to maintain composure and make sound decisions during high-pressure situations. Preferred Skills Experience with diesel-powered Z-drive or azimuth propulsion systems. Strong background in crew leadership and maritime training. Proven track record of managing vessel operations in high-traffic or cross-tide conditions.
