Peninsula Community Senior Center (PCSC) is a Non-Profit 501(3)(c) organization based in Point Loma offering transportation, educational and social opportunities with the mission of Empowering Senior Independence. For over 40 years , PCSC has been a trusted resource for the Senior Community offering a wide variety of services. Job Description:
The Van Shuttle Driver reports to the Executive Director and through the office. Representing PCSC in a positive, compassionate way is essential to attract and retain members, collaborate with other organizations serving older adults and support donor relations. A strong commitment to customer service is imperative. The position providesgroup transportation for older adults to grocery stores, errands, PCSC's Senior Lounge, social events and medical appointments located in the 92106, 92107 and 92110 zip code areas. PCSC offers door-through-door service which includes escorting members to and from their homes to the van and assisting with packages when necessary. PCSC's Van service operates six days a week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Van and Shuttle position's primary responsibility is to provide safe, comfortable and pleasant transportation. Care and compassion is of the utmost importance in serving our community's older adults. Time management and flexibility are necessary requirements for this position.
Applicants are expected to:
  • Provide safe and timely transportation to older adults in PCSC owned vans and assist with packages and bags as necessary.
  • Assist members using canes, walkers and/or wheelchairs
  • Become familiar with the Peninsula community's designated areas to ensure efficient routing of rides
  • Ability to use GPS devices and/or paper routing information
  • Assist as needed during special events when multiple drivers and vans are utilized and when substitutes are needed for other van shifts
  • Maintain clean, safe vehicles ensuring they are stocked with water and other health and safety items
  • Maintain adequate fuel and use carwash facilities regularly during scheduled work hours when available not in active transport
  • Record fuel, mileage and trip records and keep provided Contact Tracing Logs current
  • Observe and report on the health and wellbeing of van riders to the Office and Program Coordinator and raise issues as discovered The above list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive.
The position will assist with other duties related to the Out & About Peninsula Senior Transportation program as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong, friendly communication and interpersonal skills with attention to excellent customer service and conflict resolution
  • Experience working with older adults is a plus
  • Must have a clean DMV driving record and provide access to current DMV records
  • Ability to clear a background check
  • Ability to push/pull/lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be able to respond to email, phone calls and text messages in order to ensure timely communication.
Compensation :
The Van and Shuttle Driver position is a non-exempt , part-time position requiring two shifts of four hours Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week from 9:00am - 1:00pm Compensation is $20.00/hour.
