Hourly, Non-Exempt SOS Meals on Wheels is a 501-C (3) non-profit committed to providing home delivered meals and a daily check in for vulnerable seniors in our community. SOS Meals on Wheels produces and delivers 1,600 meals daily for seniors living in Castro Valley, Hayward, Oakland San Leandro, and San Lorenzo. As advocates for senior citizens, our mission is to provide a nutritious meal delivered by a friendly face that also acts as a wellness check, allowing seniors to remain independent in their homes for as long as safely possible.
Accountability:
The SOS Meals on Wheels Delivery Driver's main duty is covering absent route drivers, delivering meals to homebound seniors in Central Alameda County and Oakland. Hours are Monday- Friday, 9am-1:00pm, 20 hours per week. This position will report to the Transportation Supervisor. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Check accurate count of meals for the delivery route. Delivery of meals to clients on assigned route(s) in personal vehicle. Maintain proper food handling instructions by keeping food at proper temperatures. Deliver monthly materials to clients, including menu, monthly donation statement, Mercy Brown Bags, shelf stable meals, etc. Return any client donations to the main office and provide clients with copy of receipt for cash donations. Communicate any updates needed for the route and client instructions. Update Client Services staff of any unusual behavior or concerns with the clients, or delivery difficulties. Complete and return all paperwork to the kitchen/office in a timely fashion. Clean the delivery equipment on return to the office each day. Attend in-services and meetings as required. Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift coolers and/or move up to 50 lbs. Must be able to use both hands and arms repetitively throughout the shift. Must show understanding of and passion for the mission of SOS Meals on Wheels Must show patience and compassion with our senior clients Ability to interact in a positive manner with employees at all levels of the organization Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Ability to work independently as well as be a team player Excellent organizational skills, sensitive to detail and deadlines in a multitasking environment Additional duties will be added/modified as the program grows
Work Conditions:
Part-time drivers spend most of their time on the road inside vehicle. Loading and delivering, requires working outside in hot, cold, or inclement weather. The noise level in the work environment can be from moderate to loud. The work environment will be everchanging, with staff and volunteers all sharing the same work area. There will occasionally be wet floors, extreme temperatures, moving objects, and loud noises. The employee is expected to work around a normal kitchen environment which contains strong smells such as but not limited to food and sanitation chemicals Requirements and Qualifications Valid Driver's License TBD (valid Car Insurance) Excellent Driving Record Ability to read, write, and speak English Must be able to work in a noisy and crowded environment
