Job Description

We are innovative, mission-focused, diverse, collaborative, values-driven and focused on results. The Food Bank of Central Louisiana is adding a part-time new driver position. Primary responsibility is to deliver donated food to mobile distributions, churches, schools and nonprofit agency partners.
Job Summary:
Safe and efficient transportation of food, product, and supplies in all types of weather conditions including, but not limited to, fog, rain, sleet, and ice. Develop and maintain donor relationships with excellent customer service skills. Assist warehouse operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Commit to upholding policies, principles, and best practices for food safety. Assist in verifying food safety standards are met for products and packaging materials through visual inspection, product handling and temperature monitoring when applicable.
  • Understand the personal responsibility to follow all safety policies and health rules, programs, and procedures, to report all unsafe acts, environment, or behaviors immediately and to always report safety issues, incidents, or accidents immediately.
  • Perform cleaning and light maintenance activities on all vehicles and equipment. Maintain accurate records of vehicle operations, maintenance, and sanitation activities on a daily basis.
  • Prepare truck route for next day's business including refueling, maintenance inspections and cleaning activities. Conduct weekly cleaning and sanitizing of vehicle and equipment. Inside of cab must be maintained clean, free of trash and contain all necessary safety equipment and documentation, such as insurance and licensing.
  • Ensure all required documentation necessary for compliance to occupational safety, food safety standards and regulatory requirements is complete, accurate and current.
  • Primary driver for timely execution of product pick-up and delivery from program partners and agencies.
  • Complete and perform accurate follow-through on documentation for shipping, receiving, unloading, and warehousing of product, as defined by FA and AIB policies and procedures.
  • Complete and maintain all required documentation (
Example:
Truck Cleaning Checklist) and other documentation as assigned.
  • Perform cleaning & light maintenance on all vehicles and equipment and report problems to Logistics Coordinator or Operations Manager. Maintain accurate records of vehicle operations and maintenance on a daily basis.
  • Work with other team members in a cooperative and supportive way. Providing assistance and fill-in coverage for other positions.
  • Driver's office and dock door area clean and free of debris daily. Assist in maintaining an orderly and sanitary warehouse.
  • Load and offload company vehicles as required. Exercise safe lifting practices.
  • Maintain rapport with donors and their employees to foster continued support and a professional working relationship.
  • Inspect product donations to ensure that safety and sanitation standards are met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager to satisfactorily complete agency goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
General
  • Honesty, integrity, and commitment to fighting hunger in Central Louisiana
  • Ability to relate effectively with other staff, volunteers, agency representatives and the public.
  • Must have clear understanding of and ability to articulate the mission of the FBCL.
  • Ability to complete work in an accurate, effective, and timely manner.
  • Ability to perform physical labor as necessary to assist in achieving FBCL Mission.
  • Valid Louisiana driver's license. Specific to Position
  • Requires High School Diploma.
  • Must be a defensive driver with a Class D driver's license, current DMV printout with no moving violations, and a forklift certification for Driver I.
  • Become Serv-Safe certified; commit to adhering to principles and practices of food safety.
  • Minimum of 2 years professional truck driving experience, preferably in a food-related environment.
  • Ability to drive a box truck, automatic and standard vehicles, operate standard warehouse equipment and demonstrated ability in maintenance and basic repair of delivery equipment. Ability to safely operate all types of warehouse equipment, including, but not limited to, pallet jacks, forklifts, and dock levelers.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices, particularly road/vehicle safety.
  • Professional appearance required.
  • Ability to safely lift items weighing 20-100 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds frequently using safe lifting techniques.
  • Up to 2/3 of the time: walk, sit, squat, bend, twist, and reach at various heights above and below shoulder level.
  • Up to 1/3 of the time: push or pull; lift large, heavy, awkward objects while maneuvering in a confined space.
  • Work inside freezers and coolers with a temperature of -10° to 38°F.
  • Conduct pre and post trip inspection and complete vehicle inspection report.
  • Strong commitment to quality record keeping, customer service, and operational efficiency without shortcutting processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well with other staff and to relate to donors and agency representatives. Speak to customers with poise, voice control, and confidence imparting information in a clear and understanding manner.
  • Ability to work steadily and independently with minimum supervision and to follow standardized procedures. Strong problem-solving capability and ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Ability to work diverse schedule.
  • Familiar with The Food Bank of Central Louisiana.
  • Bilingual is a plus (Spanish preferred)
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction and procedure manuals
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to complete routine reports
  • Must be able to complete various activities in the warehouse that may require hours of lifting, standing, and carrying
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to work in a standing or sitting position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
