Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dependable and service-oriented Part-Time Library Courier Driver to transport library materials between MetroShare member libraries. This position plays an important role in keeping materials moving efficiently throughout the DFW area and ensuring that member libraries receive timely and reliable service. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working independently. This position involves frequent driving, lifting and carrying library materials, and interacting professionally with library staff at multiple locations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Drive a designated route between libraries. Pick up and deliver books. Load, unload, sort, and organize library materials for delivery. Handle library materials carefully to prevent damage or loss. Maintain an accurate and organized delivery process and follow established courier procedures. Communicate professionally and courteously with staff at member libraries. Assist with moving boxes, bins, carts, and other materials as needed. Conduct routine safety checks of the assigned vehicle and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly. Follow all traffic laws, safety procedures, and consortium policies. Maintain confidentiality of library materials and information encountered while performing duties. Complete basic delivery records, logs, or other required documentation. Assist with other duties related to courier services and library operations as assigned. Required Qualifications Valid driver's license and a safe driving record. Reliable transportation to and from the assigned work location. Ability to safely lift and carry boxes, bins, books, and other materials weighing up to 50 pounds . Ability to repeatedly bend, reach, lift, push, pull, and carry materials. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Good communication and customer service skills. Ability to follow established routes, schedules, and procedures. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience driving for work or making deliveries. Experience working in a library, warehouse, delivery service, or similar environment. Familiarity with the local area and surrounding communities. Experience working independently with minimal supervision. Previous driving experience with cargo vans or box trucks specifically a Ford Transit 250 cargo van Work Environment This position requires regular driving between consortium member libraries and may involve working in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments. The position requires frequent sitting while driving as well as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling library materials. Work may occasionally require driving in inclement weather and varying traffic conditions.
