Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Towboat Captain to lead vessel operations on inland waterways. USCG Captain's credentials is required, but I will send the right canidate to obtain them. This is not a full-time position, but could lead up to that. As a Towboat Captain, you will be responsible for safely navigating and managing towboats, ensuring the secure transport of cargo while maintaining compliance with all safety regulations. Your leadership will be essential in overseeing crew operations, managing vessel maintenance, and executing efficient logistical plans. This role offers an exciting opportunity to apply your maritime expertise in a dynamic environment dedicated to safety, efficiency, and teamwork. Duties Safely operate and navigate towboats along designated waterways, adhering to all maritime laws and safety standards Lead and manage deck crew members, assigning tasks and ensuring effective communication during vessel operations Conduct pre-departure inspections of the vessel, including rigging checks, mechanical systems, and safety equipment readiness Oversee cargo loading and securing procedures to ensure stability and compliance with weight distribution regulations Maintain detailed logs of voyage activities, safety checks, maintenance schedules, and incident reports Coordinate with port authorities, terminal personnel, and emergency responders as needed during transit or in case of emergencies Perform routine mechanical assessments and oversee minor repairs or coordinate maintenance with technical teams Skills Strong maritime navigation skills with a comprehensive understanding of inland waterway routes and regulations Proven management experience leading crew members in a high-responsibility environment Knowledge of rigging techniques for securing cargo safely during transit Mechanical knowledge related to vessel systems, engines, and safety equipment to perform inspections or troubleshoot issues Background in military service is advantageous for discipline, leadership, and operational skills Excellent communication skills for clear coordination with team members and external agencies Ability to remain calm under pressure while making quick decisions during challenging situations Join us as a Towboat Captain to steer your career forward in an energetic role that values safety, leadership, and technical expertise.
