Tybee Island Watersports Position Overview:

Tybee Island Watersports is seeking a skilled and experienced 25-GT Boat Captain to lead guided tours and private charters, showcasing the natural beauty and rich marine life of Tybee Island's surrounding waters. This role requires a passion for boating, a commitment to safety, and a dedication to delivering exceptional customer experiences. The ideal candidate will possess strong navigational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep knowledge of the local waterways.

Key Responsibilities:

Safely operate a 25-GT boat for guided tours and private charters, ensuring the comfort and enjoyment of passengers while adhering to all maritime regulations and safety protocols. Plan and execute engaging and informative tours, highlighting points of interest, historical landmarks, and wildlife encounters along the route. Provide excellent customer service, greeting guests warmly, answering questions, and accommodating special requests to enhance the overall guest experience. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the boat, including regular inspections, cleaning, and maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and safety standards. Monitor weather conditions and marine forecasts, making informed decisions regarding tour routes, departure times, and any necessary adjustments to ensure passenger safety and comfort. Demonstrate proficiency in boat handling, navigation, and emergency procedures, responding calmly and effectively to any unforeseen incidents or emergencies that may arise. Educate passengers about local marine ecosystems, conservation efforts, and responsible boating practices, fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural environment. Collaborate with other staff members and management to coordinate logistics, scheduling, and guest bookings, contributing to the overall success of Tybee Island Watersports' operations.

Qualifications:

Valid U.S. Coast Guard Captain's license with a minimum 25-Gross Ton (GT) rating. Proven experience as a boat captain, preferably in a tour or charter operation. Strong navigational skills and knowledge of local waterways, including hazards, currents, and navigational markers. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a friendly and approachable demeanor. Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, with quick decision-making skills in emergency situations. Physical fitness and agility to perform duties such as boat handling, line handling, and assisting passengers. Commitment to safety, with a thorough understanding of maritime regulations and best practices. Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, to accommodate the seasonal nature of the business.
