Job Description

Position Profile This position is responsible to pick up and deliver general and special freight in liquid, solid, loose, or packaged form. Essential Duties Operate safely and in compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures Conducts thorough pre-trip, mid-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicles being operated, in accordance with established company policies and procedures, reporting discrepancies immediately Load/unload trucks and containers, lift materials, and identify, label, count, receive, and issue freight Ensure that cargo is secured for transport in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws Operates a box truck in order to pick up and deliver customer freight in a variety of locations. Will process documents for pick-up and give information to dispatcher Pack and/or ship materials in compliance with DOT and hazardous materials regulations Maintain good housekeeping standards with focus on the care and custody of materials Prioritize and complete day-to-day activities as assigned Maintain contact with terminal dispatcher to receive instructions Maintain driver e-logs and e-maintenance logs according to State and Federal regulations May be required to perform emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires, light bulbs, and tire chains May be required to down stack and inside delivery, with white glove service, at customer location All other duties as assigned Qualifications 21 years of age High school diploma, or GED equivalent CDL Class B required Hazmat certification within 90 days of hire & maintain hazmat certification, required One to two years driving experience, preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills Follows instructions, responds to management direction, takes responsibility for own actions, completes tasks on time or communicates alternate plans Treats people with respect; keeps commitments, inspires the trust of others, works with integrity and ethically, upholds organizational values Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy Must be customer focused and represent Carlile in a professional and friendly manner Should have a mechanical aptitude Must be able to prioritize daily tasks and assignments Must be able to multitask and have excellent time management skills Must be able to drive in adverse weather conditions and in ice and snow, with the ability to chain-up Experience with lift gates, forklifts, and pallet jacks, preferred Previous material handling and HAZMAT experience Must become forklift certified Ability to read a map to determine best route Benefits Competitive hourly rate range: $24.00 - $34.75, plus $1.00 location differential, depending on experience and qualifications Employer subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family/dependents. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vehicle vibration. The employee will also be exposed to high density road traffic as well as inter-city traffic.
