JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent, under the guidance of the Street Maintenance Supervisor, operates equipment safely and efficiently to maintain city streets in good repair.ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Note:
All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times. All other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or department director. Operate equipment as assigned Drive and watch the A-Team as assigned Perform maintenance and upkeep of all equipment Patch potholes as the need arises Pour and finish concrete- cement experience a plus Keep drains clear by removing limbs and large pieces of debris out of streets and drainage ditches Salt and sand streets during snow and ice Operate chainsaw, jackhammer, power tools, etc.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or GED required Must have a valid driver's license and must obtain required CDL within 9 months of hire- Must sit for written exam within three (3) months of hire; must pass written exam within six (6) months of hire; and must pass driving exam within nine (9) months of hire
- No experience necessary; on the job training for transitioning to higher EO levels May be required to operate various pieces of equipment Preferred Qualifications Equipment Operator (EO)
I:
High school diploma or GED required Must have valid Class B CDL w/air brake endorsement No previous heave equipment experience necessary May be required to operate: crack sealer/patch truck/dump truck/loader/tractor/sprayer Equipment Operator (EO)II:
High school diploma or GED required Must have valid Class B CDL w/air brake and passenger endorsement Six (6) months previous experience in operating construction related vehicles or heavy equipment is necessary. May be required to operate above equipment plus: passenger bus/hot mix truck/concrete truck/sweeper/bobcat Equipment Operator (EO)III:
High school diploma or GED required Must have valid Class B or C CDL w/air brake endorsement upon hire. Must have or be able to obtain a valid Class A CDL w/air brake endorsement with 9 months of hire Twelve (12) months previous experience in operating construction related vehicles or heavy equipment is necessary May be required to operate above equipment plus: backhoe/excavatorOTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The incumbent should possess knowledge of the use of tools and equipment used in the department Problem solving, speed and accuracy are required to perform the duties of this position Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also requiredPOSITION DESIGNATIONS
This position is designated as essential during inclement weather events. City services will be maintained during inclement weather, such as heavy snow or ice storms and all essential employees are expected to report to work due to the critical functions of the position. This position is not able to work remotely. This position does have the potential to drive as part of their regular job duties. This position is designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is subject to random DOT drug and alcohol screenings and/or non-DOT drug and alcohol screenings (a safety/security sensitive position is one in which a momentary lapse in attention may result in injury or death of another person).PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
