PM Position Summary:
CDL Driver that is dependable, safety conscious. The driver will be responsible for safely operating company commercial motor vehicles, including standard manual transmission trucks—to transport scrap materials, roll-off containers, or structural steel products between our facility, local suppliers, and customer locations
Key Responsibilities:
Transport Operations:
Safely drive and operate commercial trucks (such as roll-offs, flatbeds, or tractor-trailers), utilizing manual transmissions to navigate various road and yard conditions.
Route Management:
Navigate local and regional routes efficiently while strictly adhering to all Department of Transportation (DOT) rules, local traffic laws, and company safety guidelines.
Loading & Unloading:
Assist with or manage the secure loading, tarping, and unloading of materials, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement using chains, binders, or straps.
Container Service:
Drop off, pick up, and position roll-off or storage containers at commercial and industrial customer sites as requested.
Vehicle Inspections:
Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and equipment, documenting any mechanical issues or maintenance needs immediately.
Yard Support:
Assist with general scrap yard operations, material sorting, or equipment loading when not driving.
Position Requirements:
License:
Valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A or Class B CDL depending on assigned fleet equipment) without an airbrake restriction.
Manual Transmission Proficiency:
Required. Must have proven, hands-on experience and proficiency in operating heavy-duty commercial vehicles with manual transmissions (e.g., 8-speed, 9-speed, 10-speed, or similar shift patterns) without relying on automatic-only restrictions.
Experience:
Minimum 1-2 years of verifiable commercial driving experience; prior experience in the recycling, construction, or heavy-haul industry is strongly preferred.
Certifications:
Must maintain a valid DOT medical card and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Physical Demands:
Ability to sit for long periods, operate a clutch and manual shifter repeatedly, walk on uneven scrap-yard surfaces, climb ladders/stairs on trucks and trailers, and regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
