Job Description

Job Summary Open Accessible Transport (OPTA) is seeking reliable, professional, and compassionate NEMT Drivers to provide safe transportation for ambulatory, wheelchair, and gurney passengers throughout Oakland and the surrounding East Bay. Drivers may be assigned to any type of transportation , depending on operational needs and their qualifications. Responsibilities Safely transport ambulatory, wheelchair, and gurney passengers Assist passengers with boarding, exiting, transfers, and mobility needs Safely operate and secure wheelchairs and gurneys Operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and accessibility equipment Follow assigned schedules and routes Communicate with dispatch regarding pickups, delays, cancellations, and schedule changes Use GPS and scheduling applications Complete vehicle inspections and maintain a clean, safe vehicle Maintain accurate trip documentation Protect passenger privacy and confidentiality Provide professional, respectful, and compassionate customer service Follow OPTA safety policies and applicable regulations Maintain reasonable schedule flexibility, including the ability to accommodate changes generally within 1-2 hours of the scheduled start or end time Requirements Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record At least 21 years old Reliable attendance and punctuality Ability to pass a background check and required pre-employment screening Professional communication and customer-service skills Comfortable using a smartphone, GPS, and scheduling technology Ability to safely assist passengers with varying mobility needs Ability to safely operate wheelchair and gurney equipment Ability to sit and drive for extended periods Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation Adequate visual acuity to safely operate a motor vehicle, with or without corrective lenses NEMT, medical transportation, caregiving, healthcare, senior transportation, wheelchair, gurney, or professional driving experience is preferred but not required. Training is provided. Schedule Full-time and part-time positions available. Schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs. Pay:
From $21.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 - 40.0 per week
