DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Shasta College is seeking an experienced CDL Driving Instructor to provide hands-on, behind-the-wheel training. This position is ideal for retired or semi-retired drivers who want to stay active in the industry, share their knowledge, and make a meaningful impact-without the demands of long-haul driving. Additionally, this position is great for anyone that is qualified and seeks part-time, punctuated, temporary work. Training hours are dependent on student enrollment Our program is well-established and successful, with small class sizes (just 2 students at a time), allowing for a relaxed, focused, and highly rewarding teaching environment.

SUPERVISOR

Project Coordinator of Community and Contract Education or designee Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability

• Provide behind-the-wheel training for Class A students
• Teach pre-trip inspections, vehicle control, backing, and safe road driving
• Reinforce defensive driving and hazard awareness
• Evaluate student performance and provide guidance
• Prepare students for CDL skills and road testing
• Maintain accurate training documentation
• Model safe, professional driving habits
• Total assignment hours is approx. 44 hours per student trainee Experience/Education
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no restrictions
• Current DOT Medical Certificate (DOT Physical)
• Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience
• Clean driving record
• Strong communication and mentoring skills
• Enrollment in the districts Controlled Substances and Alcohol Testing Program
• Enrollment in the DMV employee pull notice program
