Job Description
MINERAL KING PUBLISHING MAILROOM DRIVER, SANGER, CALIF.
(FRESNO COUNTY) & EXETER, CALIF. (TULARE COUNTY):
ABOUT US
Mineral King Publishing, Inc. (MKP) is an independently owned newspaper and printing company in California's San Joaquin Valley, but specifically in Tulare and Fresno County. MKP prints its own newspapers, The Sun-Gazette and Mid Valley Times, which cover southeastern Fresno County and most of Tulare County, as well as printing other Valley publications from school handbooks to niche monthly newspapers. MKP's mailroom team is currently made up of a mailroom manager, a mailroom clerk, and four mailroom inserters.
DESCRIPTION
: MKP runs a manual mailroom where some products are hand-fed into a labeling machine and others have labels affixed by hand. Some products are bundled into even stacks and picked up by the customer, while others are presorted and labeled for mailing through the U.S. Post Office. Inserters start by inserting secondary sections of a newspaper into the primary section, and then labeling and bundling them by postal carrier route, post office and zip code. The bundles and trays are then delivered to the post offices for mailing or delivered directly to retail sale locations throughout the coverage area by the Mailroom Manager or the Mailroom Driver. The Mailroom Driver will operate a commercial van to delivery newsprint products to post offices in Fresno and Tulare Counties, retailers from Fresno to Porterville, customers from Mariposa to Bakersfield, halfway points for special deliveries, and alternative sites due to weather or traffic. The Mailroom Driver will load and unload bundles and pallets from the commercial van either by hand or using a forklift. The Mailroom Driver will also assist with inserting, labeling and bundling in the mailroom to prepare jobs for delivery and help with jobs being picked up by the customer.
EXPECTATIONS
: It is expected that this person be a team player and be able to take instruction from others and fulfill requests by the customer.
Other expectations are as follows:
  • Must have a working knowledge of mechanical equipment;
  • Must be comfortable working on motorized equipment with rollers, gears, metal sheets, etc.;
  • Must be comfortable with commercial hand trucks, forklifts, power staplers, hydrolic cutting machines, box cutters, rulers, etc.;
  • Must be physically able to stand for long periods of time, climb in and out of vehicles, lift 50 pounds;
  • Must be conscientious about communicating schedules, delays, time off with Mailroom Manager;
  • Must be willing to learn and get dirty as ink stains and machines create dust;
  • Must be willing to work the occasional long shift during emergencies and delays;
  • Must have a clean driving record and cannot be a registered sex offender as we deliver handbooks to school sites.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
Preferred experience is as follows:
  • Preferred experience with motorized equipment with moving parts;
  • Preferred experience with printing equipment, even office printers;
  • Preferred experience in mechanical-related fields.
  • Preferred experience with forklifts.

On average, the Mailroom Driver will work four hours each day, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. These hours may result in full-time work depending on how busy the press is on a consistent basis. Shifts can vary by day, week and month depending on special projects, deadline delays, press issues, and or weather.
Work Location:
Two locations, one in Exeter and one in Sanger. Primarily, this position will work out of Sanger.
