Hourly - Specialized Recreation Class B Driver (with passenger endorsement) City of Walnut Creek - 4.7 Walnut Creek, CA Job Details Part-time $20 - $36 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Safety equipment provided Qualifications CDL B Passenger Endorsement Full Job Description Position Description Under direct supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Hourly - Specialized Recreation Class B Driver (with passenger endorsement) provides safe transportation, in a City of Walnut Creek vehicle, to participants needing transport to various destinations. In general, this position will be transporting individuals with disabilities to various activities such as day trips, evening social activities, and dinners. This is a part-time, hourly non-benefitted position, scheduled according to when activities are planned. The driver is able to choose when they are available to drive. Hours available vary from week to week but average three to eight hours per month. In addition to providing transportation to and from events, the driver will provide participant assistance during the activity being attending by the participants.

Our trained and caring team takes a person-first approach to providing recreational opportunities for youth and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities, ensuring that every participant has the chance to engage in meaningful recreation experiences with their peers. We take pride in our role to provide a positive, respectful, and supportive involvement with participants and fellow staff. Collaboratively with the wider Arts + Recreation department, we strive to have a meaningful impact on the lives of our participants while providing creative programs offered in an inclusive, fun, and innovative environment. Representative Duties Some of the duties of the Specialized Recreation Class B Driver include: Performing quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision; Interacting professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers; Working effectively as a team contributor on all driving assignments; Working independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations; Observing applicable safety requirements, using safety equipment provided, implementing appropriate safety practices at all times and immediately reporting any unsafe working conditions or hazards; and Providing direct participant support during scheduled activities. Qualifications Guidelines Before submitting an application, please review these requirements for the position. Specialized Recreation Class B Driver (with passenger endorsement) must: Possess a valid Class B Driver's License (with passenger endorsement) issued by the State of CA; Be at least 21 years of age by the date of hire; Be able to interact professionally with participants, the general public, and Be able to cooperate and work well with other staff members.
Physical Requirements:
With or without reasonable accommodation, essential physical duties for this position include: Walking, standing, driving, sitting, talking, and hearing; Use of hands/fingers to manipulate, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls (vehicles); Reaching with hands and arms; Frequently lifting/moving up to 25 pounds; Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and Occasional climbing and balancing. Supplemental Information Specialized Recreation Class B Drivers (with passenger endorsement) will be required to present a DMV driving history check, a recent negative TB test, and will undergo CA DOJ and FBI fingerprinting as part of the background check process.
