Mental Health Assistance/Services Essential Job Functions:
Serves as a commercial operator on the Solid Waste team. Capable of expertly operating the commercial solid waste equipment and providing exceptional service to customers. Provides support to the Commercial Solid Waste Operation, including but not limited to commercial garbage, commercial recycling, roll-off operation, and container delivery. Collects commercial solid waste and transports loads to designated disposal locations. Washes, cleans, and performs routine maintenance, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, filters, belts, etc. on assigned equipment daily. Completes and maintains daily written records and logs on mileage, fuel consumption, and necessary repairs to vehicle and equipment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience and ability to safely and efficiently operate a variety of commercial solid waste equipment (front load commercial garbage truck, cable style roll-off truck, hook style roll off truck, container truck) in various road and weather conditions. Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and the ability to maneuver large vehicles through heavy traffic and narrow openings. Must have the ability to interpret and follow road maps and learn various routes and collection processes in the solid waste collection system; complete and maintain written records and logs; effectively communicate with fellow employees and customers; and understand and follow instructions (written and oral). Basic computer literacy skills (ability to compose an email, provide updates in writing/simple report format, interact with asset management software, etc.)
Minimum Education & Experience:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One year experience in driving large, heavy trucks, and experience in solid waste operations preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid Florida Class B driver's license with air-brake endorsement and a good driving record as determined by the City of Winter Haven. Must be able to work early morning hours. Saturdays may be a part of the weekly work schedule. Absence of non-prescribed controlled substances in the applicant's system as verified by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven. Environmental Factors:
Must have the physical ability, strength, and flexibility to perform the job functions in the work environment. The position requires physical work that involves walking, standing, driving (with long periods of sitting), climbing, and exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a routine basis. Excellent awareness of surroundings is critical. Considerable skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of the fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances.
