JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for collecting solid waste from residential and commercial customers and transporting to the landfill.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of assigned department trucks, vehicles, and equipment and the ability to safely load, haul, and dump materials and complete related safety and maintenance measures. Knowledge of safety precautions and practices applicable to working with trucks, vehicles, and a variety of materials, with ability to assure safety of self and others at all times. Knowledge of residential / commercial routes. Knowledge of traffic laws and rules. Skill in safe and defensive driving techniques. Skill in supervising laborers. Ability to follow a route sheet and make the necessary changes for billing purposes. Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other City departments, supervisors, and the general public. Ability to safely operate a variety of trucks and equipment to include a knuckleboom loader, front loader refuse truck, rear loading garbage truck, trash/recycling trailer truck or shuttle truck. Ability to perform physical labor in adverse and inclement weather conditions. Must be able to come to work promptly and regularly. Must be able to work well with others and take directions from assigned supervisors. Must be able to perform work accurately, safety, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One year experience operating and driving vehicles such as a knuckleboom loader, a front loader refuse truck, a rear loading refuse truck, a trash/recycling trailer truck, and shuttle truck and trailer or have the ability to learn to operate and drive vehicles/equipment listed. Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in state of residency. Must obtain National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.
