The Bear Force One Driver will be a seasonally contract position, providing support for all Mobile Polar Plunge events from October 2026 to May 2027. Job Summary:

The Bear Force One Driver will be a seasonally contract position, providing support for all Mobile Polar Plunge events from October 2026 to May 2027.

Key Responsibilities:

Safely tow SOMA's mobile plunge unit, Bear Force One (BF1), to and from Mobile Polar Plunge and other Special Olympics Massachusetts events across the state. BF1 weighs approximately 11,000lbs empty and 36,000lbs when filled with water, and is towed with a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. Lead the set-up, break-down, and operation of BF1 at event locations, including parking and leveling the unit, filling and emptying the pool, and ensuring the safety of participants and volunteers while operating the unit and during event set-up and break-down. Manage the operational quality of the unit and all related equipment, conducting pre- and post-transport inspections, and organizing the unit's maintenance schedule and requirements. Support any scheduling and logistics related to the event, including participating in site visits as needed, and ensuring proper resource allocation and overall efficiency. Be ready, willing and able to take on other duties as assigned.

Position & Environment Requirements:

Position is contracted for from October 2026 to May 2027 but hours, needs, and responsibilities will vary week to week depending on the mobile plunge events schedule. The number of mobile plunge events to cover in a given week may vary as the schedule will fluctuate with more events some weeks than others. Must be able to work long hours, including nights and weekends Must be able to work in all environments, including outdoors in cold or warm temperatures which may require appropriate clothing or other protection to maintain health and safety. Some work may require accommodation for cold, snow and ice. Must be able to safely and competently transport BF1 to and from events, load and unload event equipment of varying sizes and weights, and independently set-up and operate BF1. Must commit to at least 85%-90% of Mobile Plunge events, including transporting and operating BF1. Typically, the busiest part of the season is February-April with an average of 5 Mobile Plunge events per week. Position will be managed by staff but must be able to work collaboratively with, and take direction from, a small group of volunteer leaders invested in the Mobile Polar Plunge Ability to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects and responsibilities Demonstrated capability to conduct oneself in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with people and/or difficult situations Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and other constituents

Background Requirements:

Clean driving record required CDL preferred Position is paid at a $20-25/hourly rate, dependent on skill and experience.
