Position Summary The Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and professional transportation of participants to and from the adult day care center. The Driver ensures vehicles are operated safely, participants are assisted properly, and the State of Maryland COMAR transportation standards are followed. This role supports the overall mission of Better Life Care by delivering dependable, respectful service to older adults and adults with disabilities. Primary Responsibilities Transportation & Safety
  • Transport participants to and from the center using agency vehicles following assigned routes and schedules.
  • Ensure all riders are secured properly using seatbelts, wheelchair tie-downs, and safety restraints.
  • Assist participants entering and exiting the vehicle, including wheelchair lifts and mobility support.
  • Drive in compliance with all Maryland traffic laws and company transportation policies.
  • Monitor participants during transport for health or safety concerns and report any issues immediately. Vehicle Operation & Maintenance
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections (tires, lights, fluids, wheelchair lift, brakes).
  • Report any mechanical issues to the Program Director immediately.
  • Keep the vehicle clean, sanitized, and presentable at all times.
  • Maintain accurate mileage logs, inspection forms, and daily transportation documentation. Participant Support & Customer Service
  • Provide courteous, respectful assistance to all participants and families.
  • Ensure participants feel comfortable, secure, and supported during transportation.
  • Communicate delays, route changes, or participant concerns to supervisory staff promptly.
  • Provide one-on-one support to participants who require additional encouragement or assistance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions. Emergency Preparedness
  • Follow emergency procedures for breakdowns, accidents, medical emergencies, or safety incidents.
  • Assist participants safely during evacuations or unexpected events.
  • Complete incident reports accurately when required. Documentation & Compliance
  • Record attendance, pick-up/drop-off times, and any unusual occurrences during transport.
  • Complete daily vehicle inspection sheets and report hazards immediately.
  • Follow all COMAR regulations regarding transportation safety for adult day care programs. Qualifications
  • Valid Maryland driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Prior experience transporting seniors or adults with disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to assist with wheelchairs, walkers, transfers, and mobility support.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to pass DOT physical (if required), background check, drug screen, TB test, and provide immunization records.
  • Familiarity with Anne Arundel County and surrounding areas preferred. Schedule & Work Conditions
  • Full-time, Monday-Friday, and occasional Saturdays.
  • 7 am to 9:30 am and 3 pm to 5 pm
  • Works outdoors in varying weather and indoors during vehicle loading/unloading.
  • Reports directly to the Program Director and collaborates with RN and front desk staff. Core Competencies
