As a Local Route CDL Driver, you will primarily be driving dump trucks. However, you may also operate a variety of other heavy-duty trucks to transport recycled metal between customer sites, industrial facilities, and our processing yards. You'll be responsible for ensuring each load is safe, secure, and compliant with DOT regulations while maintaining a high standard of communication, professionalism, and care on the road.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prioritize safety above all. Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment is DOT compliant and ready for the road. Operate primarily end dumps. Navigate local and in-state routes efficiently using GPS and dispatcher guidance—no overnight hauls. Ensure all loads are secure, correctly placed, and compliant with safety standards; perform safe and efficient unloading of materials. Accurately collect and deliver paperwork and electronic records to ensure a smooth transfer of materials from customer sites to our facility. Communicate clearly with dispatch via radio and mobile tools regarding route changes, job site conditions, and delivery timelines. Maintain electronic driver logs (ELDs), track hours, and comply with all DOT regulations and company procedures. Represent the company with professionalism at every stop—drivers are the frontline of our customer relationships. Carry out other duties as assigned, always upholding operational excellence and commitment to safety. Skills & Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Valid Class A CDL preferred. 1-3 years of experience operating commercial vehicles in the scrap or recycling industry strongly preferred. Familiar with hauling scrap metal using various truck types Confident operating both manual and automatic transmissions. Current DOT medical card and clean MVR required. Physically capable of climbing, securing loads, and working in outdoor environments year-round. Must pass a company driving test and pre-employment drug screening. Dependable, team-oriented, and committed to working safely and efficiently. Supervisory Responsibilities. Physical Demands This position requires the physical ability to safely operate and inspect heavy-duty vehicles in an outdoor industrial environment. Drivers must be able to climb safely in and out of commercial trucks multiple times per shift, secure, tarp, and occasionally assist with loading and unloading materials, lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs as needed. This position also requires the successful candidate to tolerate exposure to outdoor elements including heat, cold, rain, and snow, sit for extended periods while driving and maintain focus over long distances, and perform tasks that require bending, kneeling, reaching, and walking on uneven terrain.
