JOB SUMMARY

The position involves performing a variety of semiskilled and skilled maintenance and construction work for roadways, storm drainage and other public works facilities and systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operates single axle dump trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various materials or equipment. Operates dump truck with a snowplow and salt/cinder spreader in the removal of ice and snow. Maintains a variety of records relating to materials hauled, work performed, job location, hours worked, etc. Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement patching, ditch digging, shoveling, jack hammering, chain sawing, and other physical labor necessary. Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tolls by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment. Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as air compressor, brush chipper, chain saw, jackhammer, or mechanized broom. Performs all duties in accordance with safety policies and procedures. Assists in the training of new or lower-level employees to increase their skills and promote safety in the maintenance and construction of roads and storm drainage facilities. Places traffic control devices and perform duties as a flagger for work zone traffic control in compliance with the County's standards and guidelines. Performs some work as part of the County's Emergency Operations Plan. Performs work at assigned location during specified business hours. Performs related additional duties as required and assigned.
