Job Description

Anderson Underground is hiring an experienced Vac Truck Operator to support underground utility construction and directional drilling crews. This position is responsible for safely operating a vacuum excavation truck to expose existing utilities, complete potholing and daylighting, and support drilling and excavation operations. Travel is required. Key Responsibilities Operate vac truck equipment for potholing, daylighting, trench cleaning, and utility exposure. Safely excavate around existing fiber, electric, gas, water, sewer, and telecommunications lines. Support HDD crews by exposing and verifying utilities before drilling or excavation begins. Operate the vacuum system, water system, boom, hoses, and related attachments. Set up work areas using cones, barricades, and required traffic-control measures. Follow utility markings, prints, jobsite instructions, and damage-prevention procedures. Transport the vac truck, equipment, water, and materials between jobsites. Empty debris tanks and refill water tanks at approved locations. Complete daily pre-trip, post-trip, and equipment inspections. Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance on the truck, hoses, tanks, pumps, and attachments. Report equipment damage, mechanical concerns, utility conflicts, and unsafe conditions to the foreman. Assist with general underground construction and jobsite cleanup when vac truck duties are complete. Follow all company safety policies, DOT requirements, and jobsite procedures. Required Qualifications Valid Class A CDL. Previous vac truck, hydro-vac, or vacuum excavation experience. Underground utility construction experience. Experience potholing and safely exposing existing utilities. Ability to safely operate in active construction zones and around crews and equipment. Ability to complete vehicle inspections, logs, and required paperwork. Willingness to travel and work Anderson Underground's field schedule. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and complete physically demanding tasks. Ability to pass required background and drug screening. Preferred Qualifications Tanker endorsement. Experience supporting HDD or underground fiber crews. Experience operating mini excavators, skid steers, or other support equipment. Knowledge of utility markings, tolerance zones, and damage-prevention procedures.
