JOB SUMMARY
The Equipment Operator performs responsible semiskilled work in city solid waste collection and transport, does related work as required. Reporting to the Crew Supervisor, the Equipment Operator works under general supervision sufficient to monitor progress and assess achievement of key performance indicators.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operates dump trucks, hydraulic winches, hoists, boom truck, rear loader, waste collection vehicles (rear and ASL) and similar equipment. Loads, hauls and unload municipal solid waste. Maintain all associated logs, files, and records. Assists in cleaning rights-of-way on public streets and property. Assists with the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment. Assists with snow removal and ice control. Performs related tasks as required.
EQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned Skill in the use of equipment to which assigned. Skill in Excel, Word and electronic mapping. Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions. Ability to lift heavy articles. Ability to read and write language and maps. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city employees and the public. Exemplary attendance is required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High School diploma or GED and moderate experience in the operation of motorized equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or ability to acquire a Class A commercial driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina as needed. Demonstrated safe driving history. Additional Information This position requires a Commercial Driver License and is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT). This position is subject to random substance abuse testing at any time for the duration of employment and while occupying a DOT regulated position.
