ANNOUNCEMENT

• The City of Beacon is accepting applications for one (1) Full-time Motor Equipment Operator in the Highway Department .

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver's License at the time of application and to maintain position.

PERFORMANCE DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Incumbent will perform routine manual duties in connection with the operation of motor equipment of up to moderate complexity. Specific directions are received from a superior, but Incumbent is responsible for the safe and economical operation of their equipment on assigned tasks. Incumbent should have the knowledge of the operation of trucks and other automotive equipment needed in order to operate the equipment safely and effectively; the ability to perform all duties in a safe and appropriate manner, in compliance with OSHA, DOL, DMV, and departmental regulations; the ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; the personal characteristics necessary to perform the duties of the position; and physical conditions commensurate with the demands of the position.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

• Operates a truck in connection with the removal of snow, debris and refuse and the transportation of stone, sand, asphalt and other materials and supplies;
• Drives workers to and from jobs;
• Operates a snow plow, sander, water wagon, fuel service trucks, sweepers and utility vehicles;
• May operate an air compressor in the breaking of pavements, and a chain saw in clearing brush and trimming trees;
• Performs manual labor such as loading trucks, digging ditches, cleaning and repairing basins, repairing roadways, and erecting signs and fences;
• Maintains vehicles assigned in a clean condition, including running lights;
• Assists supervisor as requested;
• Prepares all activities and other reports required by the supervisor;
• May perform routine building and grounds maintenance;
• May infrequently operate other types of equipment.

SALARY/HOURS

$28.63 per hour, working forty ( 40 ) hours per week, inclusive of a thirty (30) minute paid lunch.
