Job Description

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR JOB OPENING ALLIANCE STREET DEPARTMENT
The City of Alliance anticipates an opening for an Equipment Operator in the Street Department. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be physically fit to do all duties assigned. In addition, the applicant must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or those who have a Class B or do not hold a CDL must be able to obtain Class A once hired. Applicants shall have experience in operating heavy maintenance machinery and a good knowledge of all the principals of street maintenance. Skill in the operation of equipment and construction tools is necessary. Experience is preferred but not necessary. Starting wage is $19.89 per hour. Applications will be accepted until Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Blaine Lewis, Safety Service Director GENERAL Performs tasks necessary to carry out the duties of the Street Department, which are primarily to perform snow and ice control on city streets and alleys, maintain road surfaces and their associated drainage, clean city streets, collect leaves, maintain traffic directions (road markings and signs), maintain the department's equipment and facilities, and to otherwise maintain public right of ways. Also assists other city departments as needed.
EXAMPLES OF JOB ASSIGNMENTS
Employees in this position are expected to carry out job assignments that range in normal description from highly skilled to labor. Examples include plowing snow, applying salt, grading road and drainage surfaces, painting road markings and installing storm sewers; as well as shoveling asphalt, cleaning equipment, or sweeping floors. Employees are expected to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically fit to do all duties assigned.
Must be able to:
  • Rake and shovel asphalt, dirt, sand, and gravel
  • Easily climb up into all equipment
  • Pick up items from the ground and place on to a truck weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Have range of movement and peripheral vision to operate all equipment safely and easily.
Applicant must be a high school graduate, able to read and write well and have the interpersonal skills to function effectively as part of a team. Applicant must have a Commercial Driver's License Class A. If applicant holds a Class B CDL or does not hold a CDL one must be obtained upon hire.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Employees in this position must be able to properly and efficiently operate any of the department's tools and equipment, including but not limited to the following: backhoes, loader, roller, sweeper, grader, paint striper, crack sealing kettle, tractor, dump truck, plows, spreaders, air compressor, jack hammer, street drill, post driver, cutting torch, cutoff saw, movers, ditcher, rototiller, hammer, sledge hammer, wrenches, impact tools, screw drivers, grease gun, shovels, rakes, drills, saws, spray gun, weed eaters, chains saws, pruning shears, hedge trimmers.
