Job Description

Driver City of Tahlequah; OK Tahlequah, OK 74464 Full-time Full-time Job Description Responsible for driving and the safe operation of a tractor trailer unit meeting applicable USDOT standards hauling refuse from the transfer station(s) to the designated approved landfill site.
Classification:
This is a safety sensitive position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act and/or Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a safety sensitive classification you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana. Job Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Work under the supervision of the Department superintendent and/or their designee. Driving sanitation department tractor/trailer from the transfer station to the designated landfill site. Dump refuse at the designated landfill; inspect the trailer to be certain it is empty; and return to transfer station. Perform USDOT required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment. Do any USDOT required record keeping. Post log sheet with sanitation plant before leaving for landfill. Inspect equipment for needed repairs and help with said repairs as needed. Monitor need for regularly scheduled maintenance procedures on equipment and help with said as needed. Load transfer trucks as needed; operate other equipment at the plant as qualified and needed; and help with other duties around the plant/transfer station as assigned. Other tasks and duties may be assigned to the employee as needed by the supervisor in charge and/or city administration that are not included in this job description and may/or may not be in this department. This Department:
Must have an Oklahoma Class "A" Commercial Driver's License. Ability to safely drive a tractor /trailer and maneuver it in close situations. Working knowledge of applicable USDOT regulation Qualifications To perform this job successfully; an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge; skill; and/or ability required. Self motivated to be able to work individually and cooperative enough to function as part of a team. Willingness to do work outside in all types of weather. Ability to establish effective working relationships with fellow employees; supervisors; and the general public. Maintain socially accepted standards of speech and appearance while on duty. Must be willing to adhere to all applicable rules and laws regarding safety and work in a consistently safe manner. Ability and willingness to perform assigned work in a timely and efficient manner. Ability to safely operate a semi-tractor/trailer and skid steer loader in close areas. Be a safe; courteous; responsible driver and a good representative for the City of Tahlequah at the landfill site. Must have basic abilities with hand tools and willing to learn more. Must have general working knowledge of USDOT regulations relating to the equipment being driven and the driving assignment. Education and/or Experience High School Diploma; or equivalent; is preferable. Experience driving a tractor/trailer sufficient to perform the required duties of the job safely. Language Skills Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees; supervisors; and the public. Mathematical Skills Reasoning Ability Recognize unsafe conditions and situations. Must be able to understand both oral and written instructions. Computer Skills Certificates; Licenses; Registrations Must have an Oklahoma Class "A" Commercial Driver's License and maintain it throughout your employment. Other Skills and Abilities Other Qualifications Must successfully complete required drug testing and physical examination per City of Tahlequah's policies and USDOT regulations. Have and maintain a driving record sufficient to satisfy the insurance mandates placed upon the city and USDOT regulations for the operation of the specified equipment. Establish employment eligibility under USDOT; USDOL; and City of Tahlequah rules and policies. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Climbing; balancing; stooping; reaching; walking; pushing; pulling; lifting; grasping; talking and hearing are all demanded in the job. The job is considered "Medium Work" but can be heavy at times. Level Three Visual Acuity and/or level required for Oklahoma Class "A" CDL; whichever is more stringent.
